2010-2011 Assistant Drum Major Abe Go
Mace Majors Division

Congratulations to Abe Go on his
Superior Plaque at USA Drum Major Camp
2010 at San Jose State!!!

Abe Go started at Riordan in the freshman band picking up the flute and moving his way up to Intermediate Band while playing in the pit in Riordan's first Winter Indoor Drumline and competed at multiple competitions with the drumline.

Abe has played on Riordan's golf and JV Basketball teams as a sophomore and is starting to play on Riordan's brand new lacrosse team.

When Abe auditioned for the role of drum major last year, part of his audition included competing in Riordan's first L-pattern competition appearance in the Hawaiian Invitational held at Kamehameha High School. He performed his L-pattern routine to the theme from "Top Gun."

In Summer 2010, Abe participated in USA Drum Major Camp at San Jose State University and was the first Riordan drum major to be placed in the Advanced Spinning Class. He was the only drum major in the Advanced Spinning Class to receive a Superior score of 90+. He is the third drum major from Riordan to receive the Superior plaque, the previous drum majors were Casiano Payawal (08') and Benjamin Tan (10').

In the Winter season of 2011, Abe was on the Winter snareline after only picking up the snare a couple months earlier.

This L-Pattern season, he performed his L-pattern routine to "Just a Dream" by Nelly. Abe placed 2nd place at the San Mateo Show , 3rd place at the Fairfield Pageantry on Parade Show, and 4th place at Del Oro NCBA Winter Championship.

2010-2011 Drum Major L-Pattern Competitor Simon Ankirsky
Mace Majors Division

Simon started in the Riordan band program as a sophomore where he picked up percussion from the start. He has worked up into the band program into Symphonic Band.

He also played freshman baseball and soccer at Riordan and is going out for lacrosse this year. He is an active member of Riordan's spirit squad and is currently running for the position of Spirit Chair for the 2011-2012 school year. At every band competition, Simon is always the one to bring some spirit and life to the award ceremonies. He recently kept up the Riordan/Granite Bay tradition of Cheese Balls at the Fairfield Band Review in 2010.

Along with Abe, Simon auditioned for the role of drum major as a sophomore and competed in his first L-pattern competition in Hawaii. He performed his L-pattern routine to the beats from "Beverly Hills Cops."

While juggling band and drum majoring, Simon has been playing the quads on the Riordan drumline for the past two years.

After his sophomore year, Simon has continued with his mace spinning as a junior and has gone on to compete in the Winter L-Pattern season in 2011. His routine is performed to the theme from the Ghostbusters. Simon received 2nd place at Fairfield's Pageantry on Parade.

2010-2011 Drum Major L-Pattern Competitor Anthony Trigueiro
Mace Apprentice Division

Anthony Trigueiro is a sophomore at Riordan who like most band members started in the Instrumental Music Ensemble (Freshman Band) on the clarinet. After one year of band, instead of being moved into the Intermediate Band, Anthony was one of the few members in his class to move directly into the marching band. He also secured a spot in the Wind Ensemble.

In addition to band, Anthony played soccer and tennis as a freshman and is currently on the golf team. He is also part of the National Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation, and restarted the Bike Club at Riordan.

He is the only clarinetist in the pit orchestra in Riordan's Spring 2011 musical, "Jesus Christ Superstar." Anthony is also on the Riordan drumline on Bass 5 after picking up bass drum just recently as a sophomore. He would like to pick up flute next.

Beginning in Fall of 2010, Anthony began to pick up his drum major's mace and start learning how to spin. There is not a day that goes by when he is not practicing on his mace afterschool in the courtyard. He has spun for about 5 months and is eager to become Riordan's next drum major.

This past Winter season 2011, Anthony competed in the NCBA ciruit along with a group of other drum majors from Riordan. In his first three competitions in his drum majoring career, Anthony placed 1st in all three. Anthony received 1st place at the San Mateo show with a score of 92! He went on to receive 1st place at Fairfield's Pageantry of Parade show with a score of 92 and won 1st place at Foothill's competition with a score of 85. At NCBA Winter Championships, Anthony placed second in a division of great competition from many other high schools such as Rodriguez and San Mateo.

2010-2011 Drum Major L-Pattern Competitor Stephen Velasco
Mace Apprentice Division

Stephen Velasco is a sophomore at Riordan who plays the flute in the sophomore band. Stephen, like all the other drum majors marched in the marching band this year at many events including the World Series Parade!

He may seem quiet, but Stephen is extremely funny and spontaneous all the time.
Stephen also plays JV tennis at Riordan and is on the Riordan drumline as Bass 3.

During the winter season 2011, Stephen performed on Riordan's 2nd Winter Percussion Unit. He also competed in the 2011 NCBA L-Pattern season in the mace apprentice division. Stephen placed 5th at the Foothill competition and has improved greatly since first picking up his mace a couple months ago.

He performed his L-Pattern routines to the instrumental version of the hit song "Nothin' on You" by B.O.B. and Bruno Mars.

We wish Stephen the best of luck as he continues to spin in L-pattern competitions in his future years at Riordan.

2010-2011 Drum Major L-Pattern Competitor Joniel Lemley
Mace Apprentice Division

Joniel plays the baritone in the Riordan Band and started as a freshman in beginning band. Currently Joniel is one of the three baritones in the baritone line and is in the Symphonic Band. As a sophomore, Joniel was part of the auxiliary banner units that framed the marching band in band reviews and parades.

Joniel is an active part of life at Riordan. He runs on the cross country and track team and is part of the DJ Club as well. His DJ and mixing talents led him to create his own track for his L-Pattern competition this year titled, "Inception: the Remix."

He is also part of Riordan's Winter Percussion Unit. Joniel plays in the pit on various instruments.

Joniel competed in the mace apprentice division with Anthony and Stephen after only spinning for a couple months as well.
