Colorguard
The Archbishop Riordan Colorguard was started in Fall 2008 by alumnus, Mark Lieuw (Class of 07). The program is a collaboration between Riordan and Mercy SF High School. The program is still growing and this year (2010-2011) will be the third year of the program! The colorguard has been a great asset and addition to the band! In previous years, Riordan has only had one colorguard in (2004-2005) with a nine-member all-male flagline in the back of the band. This year, we have a new assistant colorguard instructor, Paisely Parker, who has performed with DCI (Drum Corps International) World Class drum corps: Santa Clara Vanguard.
Last year, the guard has reached a new milestone with seven members, a rifle line, and brand new uniforms!!! The colorguard will start the fall season competing after being recognized as a part of the marching band last year by NCBA. This year in October, colorguard placed fourth at the Santa Cruz Band Review and, a third place trophy at the Foothill Band Review, and a second place trophy at the Fairfield Tournament of Champions.
This year, the colorguard is growing even more to 14 members! Everyone has been working tirelessly since summer began in May with rehearsals running through summer and into colorguard and band camps.
We are always looking for new recruits for colorguard! Come out and give it a try!
